Review: The Chapar Trunk

I’ve always been open to the idea of personal styling suggestions when it comes to clothes shopping and with the increasing popularity of the ‘mail order stylist’ I thought I’d check out The Chapar, the leading personal styling service for men, on a mission to turn men who loathe clothes shopping into a simplified and pleasurable experience.

The Chapar styling service couldn’t be easier to use. Firstly, you head to their website and select your shopping style:

You are then asked a selection of questions in terms of fits and styles you prefer e.g. slim fit or classic shirt. slim and straight or relaxed trouser fit. Once The Chapar understands your desired fits it asks you to select a few brands you like such as Calvin Klein, John Smedley, Hackett and Ralph Lauren. Finally, you are asked for your sizes.

The final step and most personal part of the experience is a phone call from your very own designated stylist will call you to fine tune exactly what to include in your trunk. In my case, I was asked is I had any special occasions coming up I was dressing for? and what type of job I had? I advised my personal stylist that I was really into the simple, plain, yet well-tailored everyday Scandinavian look.

When my trunk arrived, included were outfits from the likes of Dockers, Gant, Sunspell, and Farah, as well as some grooming products and a complimentary issue of Gentleman’s Journal.

What I most liked about my trunk, was that I was able to try on a selection of outfits and brands I wouldn’t usually go for. After holding a mini fashion show in front of the mirror in my bedroom, it was the Farah items which appealed to me most, due to the fit and quality of the pieces. A brand I had never even considered, let alone stepped into one of its stores.

Here are the items I kept from my trunk:

  • Farah Steen Slim Bordeaux Shirt – £55
  • Farah Honeycomb Grey Marl Texture Jumper – £70
  • Farah Newbury Grey Marl Tee – £35

Once you’ve picked the items you want to keep, you simply send the trunk back via The Chapar’s simple return methods. Essentially, you only get charged for what you keep!

Overall, I think The Chapar is a great way of discovering new clothing brands or those you have never been aware of in the past.
