On Tuesday evening I was invited to a dinner with a bit of a twist… in Cuba (well not exactly, but not far off!).

Popping-up for a two-week stint in the heart of Soho, Casa Havana was aย Cuban dining and drinking experience curated by Hava Club Rum. As well asย Street Feast founder, Dom Cools-Lartigue, who created aย five-course dining experience and renowned street artist, Ben Eine who, working with Cuban artists created elements of the exterior and interior of Casa Havana.

I was sat with theย @Londonย who shared the same passion as me forSoho’s ever-changing eclectic dining scene, as well as a passionย for rum cocktails!

The five-course pairing menu, which was cooked by BBC Good Food Show’s chef, Marcos Bean consisted of:

Frijoles con Carteza de Cerdo
Pork crackling crisps with spiced black beans

Tacos de Langosta estilo
Cheese & parsley rolled tacos with lobster

Cubano Taco
Flavours of the traditional Cuban sandwich with pork shoulder, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles & mustard served on a taco

Ropa Vieja Tostones
Shredded beef, twice fried plantains

Mojito Ceviche Lubina
Seabass Ceviche with mint & lime served in Scallop shells with crispy tortilla

Stand out dishes of the evening included the Cheese & parsley rolled tacos with lobster and the Seabass Ceviche, which was almost like enjoying seabass in a mojito juice – scrumptious!

But the real highlight of the evening for me and my inner geek was the unique VR sensory experience, where guests were transported to Cuba’s colourful capital to learn the heritage behind Havana Club – all finished off with a rum cocktail which turns from VR to a real-life cocktail!

Did you manage to bag yourself a ticket? if so, comment below with your highlights from the pop-up.
