THE HAIR PROJECT: Week Four – Hair Clays

Processed with VSCO with c1 preset

Welcome to fourth, and final week of ‘THE HAIR PROJECT’.

Over the past four weeks, I’ve put hair pomades, creams and pastes to the test. So for the fourth and final week, It’s time to put hair clays to the test.

Hair clay products range in consistency, from thick to creamy and believe it or not, actually contain real clay! they are known to add body and texture to hairstyles and work particularly well with cropped cuts or hairstyles which require a more textured look.

Here’s the lowdown on hair clays:

Finish Textured, with light hold

Best for Any hair type, but particularly good for frizzy hair types, as clays moisture and condition

Tips Work a bit of sea salt spray through the hair and blow dry, before using the clay for a textured and voluminous look

Hair clay products put to the test

MITCH (by Paul Mitchell) Matterial, £14.95 available from Hqhair.com

First off, this product smelt great – really fresh and clean. The product gripped to my hands and the hair in a magnetic-type force, building up well onto the hair for a voluminous look, which stayed all day.

Uppercut Matt Clay, £13.90 available from Justmylook.co.uk

The formation of the product is very dry and the clay really needed to be warmed with a hair dryer before applying. I’d say that it is  a cross between a wax and a paste. So would be perfect for anyone looking for a more defined look. My hair is more slicked over and naturally dry, so not quite right for me.

Daimon Barber Clay Pomade, £12.75 available from Daimonbarber.co.uk

This one was creamier than Uppercut. Not much warming needed and coated the hair well for a natural hold, which left my hair conditioned and frizz-free. Additionally, as with all Daimon Barber products, it smelt great.

American Crew Moulding Clay, £10.60 available from Lookfantastic.com

The product itself  was REALLY shimmery! which gives hair a glossy shine – perfect for a well-groomed sartorial look. Hold wise, American Crew Moulding Clay offered a natural and re-mouldable finish, enabling me to mix up my style throughout the day.
